    Mother: Ivy Lillian Howes

    Notes:

My father ( John Robert Leins ) was the son of Douglas Leins ( eldest son of William (FRed) Louis
and Rosa Nichols. My father's mother was Ivy Howes, daughter of Ernest Howes, Chief Sanitary
Inspector to the Port of London. Ernest had 8 children as far as I can gather, some of
whom I remember as ancient great aunts when I was very young. They lived in London , Lower Bland
St. Ernest Howes married Julia Amies, from the paper mould making family from Maidstone
, Kent. Ernest had a brother so this man's children were cousins to my grandmother Ivy. They
were Bobby and Sally Ann Howes. According to my mother, who knows more about her inlaws
family than most of them did!, tells me that Bobby and Sally Ann Howes wrote "Paint your Wagon"
for a West End performance. I'm not sure hoe accurate this point is, but that is the relationship
you seek, rather tenuous a link, however, since not related to the rest of the Leins
family. Julia Howes was my great grandmother and she must have been sister in law to Bobby's
    father.
I hope some of this is interesting or useful. I am still researching but have many serious gaps
    !!

John married Joan Coleman 12/10/1942 in St Matthews Church, Lambeth and had 2 sons Max married
Jill and John married Margerie and 2 daughters Jeanne 11/01/1949 born in Flint married Michael
Hugh Dobson on 24/05/1969 and Gretchen. Max has a son Ian. Jeanne has a son Luke who married

    	LEYLAND, Frederick Richards: Find-a-Grave Memorial
    	LEYLAND, Frederick Richards (1831-1892)
Leyland's funerary monument is the only such work by Edward Burne-Jones - the finest Arts and
Crafts funerary monument in the UK, and Grade II listed.
    Age 60 years
    Notes
Frederick Leyland started working as an apprentice for John Bibby, Sons & Co and became a partner
of that firm. As early as 1864-1867 he commissioned paintings from G.D. Rossetti and J.M.
Whistler. In 1867, he took the tenancy of Speke Hall, Liverpool (see photo) and in 1869 he
bought a house in London at 49, Princes Gate. In 1873 he founded the Leyland Shipping Line.

From Edward Burne-Jones, Leyland commissioned "The Beguiling of Merlin". The painting was executed
between 1872 and 1877. During the 1870s Whistler decorated Leylandþs dining room, the Peacock
Room. His relationship with Whistler turned sour in 1877 after he refused to pay a bill
of 2,000 guineas because he was of the opinion that Whistler had exceeded a commission when
he painted the Peacock Room. Whistler went bankrupt the next year and took revenge with caricatures
    of Leyland.

Leyland separated from his wife, Frances Dawson in 1879 and went on to have 2 illegitimate sons
with Annie Ellen Wooster. They were; Fred Richards Wooster (1884) and Francis George Wooster
(1890). After their separation, Frances sold The Peacock Room to Charles Lang Freer. It was
dismantled and shipped to Washington and is now at the Freer Gallery of Art there.

Leyland's daughter Florence Leyland (1959-1921) married the painter Valentine Prinsep.

When Leyland died in January 1892, he was among the largest ship-owners in Great/Britain. His
funerary monument at Brompton Cemetery in London was created by Edward Burne-Jones.
