Revisiting - Oh Dear !

They shoot horses don't they?  Well - what about me?

First ENVY:- I watched a Utube video of somebody cutting out and sanding some ply teeth.  It was just like a knife going through butter - but it really takes time cutting and sanding MDF, it almost make me want to switch materials.  I also get through blades and sand-paper at an alarming rate.

And then STUPIDITY:- I had the problem that my drill stand only has a 5" throw and therefore I decided to go for a smaller Minute wheel.  I also have to join two pieces of wood together to make an 8" wheel.  So why not doing the initial drilling before joining the pieces!  So I now have to decide whether to go for a 10" or 8" wheel.

Also I do no think that a five spoke wheel would balance - so all change there too!

And finally GLUE:-  nothing seems to want to permanently stick the transparent film to the veneer.  I assumed Evo-Stick would do the job, but it was worse than Frame Mount.  I asked the manufacture and they agreed that none of their adhesives would work.  So another little problem to solve.

Anyway, on with the work...

I inspected Clayton's teeth (!) and suddenly saw that they were completely different.  He said he created the wheels at two different times and that the curved teeth seem to be better.  The straight profile is on the Movement/3rd wheel, which is much more critical as regards variation in friction!

Opposite is an enormous magnification of them from a scan - the line is only 0.17mm width.

So I have decided to create my own profiles and just nick his overall ideas.

It took me a wee while to get into teeth and I was not going to buy a program - so I used Pov-Ray to generate them.

I have this funny feeling that I am enjoying this design and experimentation phase so much, that I might never get around to building it!  I certainly am going to make sure that I effectively build a kit of parts and then try out different ideas.  The one thing I do not want to do is to cut more teeth than I need to (because it is such a slow business).
