TODO: find her surname as Barbara wrote...
Taking what Grt. Uncle Alf said about his father being one of the first men to work at "Bessemer's forge" I decided to check out "Bessemer" and discovered Sir Henry Bessemer (1813-1898) who invented a new way of making steel. His steel works was set up at Sheffield, not Bolton, in 1860.
I can't remember the site but Sir Henry's autobiography is up on the web and on the pages I read he mentioned the Ebbw Vale Ironworks and a Mr. George Parry who was the furnacemaster in 1857. I wonder if Sophia Parry (aunt to Gt. Uncle Alf) and Sam Parry (of an iron foundry family from Wales!) were related to him? I don't know if Sam and Sophia were father and daughter or brother and sister. (I remember Gt. Uncle Alf referring to Sophia as a "maiden lady.")
