The Overall Shape

You will notice that the clock consists of 4 basic joined constructions, and it is easy to change their relative positions without affecting the mechanism.

These transformations do not really upset the overall pleasing proportions of the design, but we can go further and really alter the angles

none of which look as attractive as the first set.

Or how about aligning the minute wheel with the verge!

Bearing in mind the wall space constraint, this lined-up arrangement, with a perhaps reduced hour wheel or even vertically aligned with the minute wheel would take up much less room - but it is so unattractive.

So the thinnest squashed up version above, is the thinnest version I could possibly accept - but it does not move my soul.

One could just scale down the clock, and  I assume, unlike a pendulum clock, it is possible to scale a verge (as weight is the only important factor, not length).  But I'm not sure I have the skill to construct it - so my first version must be full size.

So far the only aspect I have changed is the frame, which is easy to do after all the elements have been made.
